This is the first week of the internship and I was so excited about starting! I met with my new boss Kristin, and fellow intern, Lia at the Starbucks down by the mall. Kristin bought me a delicious breakfast consisting of a skinny latte and blueberry muffin. We proceeded to discuss the essentials for the internship: hours, business, what days would look like, etc. Kristin then took me to Athens Church to show me all of the work that she had completed there in the year+ that she had been helping them. It was amazing!
The first week was very busy and so Lia and I were put right to work. Kristin already has quite a few clients: a church in Peachtree City, a Client who has a law office off in Athens, a residential client who lives in Atlanta, and another client who owns a home in Athens. Not to mention her developing destination project at a church in Texas. So Kristin is a busy bee and we interns were eager to help!
I was given the responsibility of a master bedroom for the client in Athens and so we all went to her house to see what work we could do with it. This client picked out a paint color that she really liked: A very dark green. She wants to keep her black furniture in the room and she also saw a picture of some hanging chandeliers that she wants to put next to her bed. Her bedspread is white with some blue accents, and she wants a place for family pictures.
We took pictures of the room and I wrote notes so that I could get started searching for products/materials on all the websites that Kristin supplied for me.
The week was very busy and on days when Lia and I didn't meet with Kristin, we went shopping for clients. We ran errands all over Athens: TJ Maxx, Athens Interiors, Athens Blueprint, Athens Art & Frame, buying all the things that Kristin needed. It was quite fun and we were pumped to buy so much stuff!
The biggest project of the week included going to a church in Peachtree City to do an installation. The church has a kids hallway that they painted all sorts of pretty designs and colors. Our job was to use chalk to continue the drawings in two different locations: The hallway at the entrance to the kids area, and the stairwell that led up to the older kids' classrooms. Lia and I copied the designs that Kristin gave us and drew on the walls with chalk so that someone could come back over them with paint. It was great experience. We hung butterflies from the ceiling and we also hung giant fake leaves from Ikea in the stairwell. It definitely will look like a jungle in there once it's finished and the kids are definitely going to love it. Here's some pictures of what I 'm talking about:
The decorations looked similar to this
We hung four of these leaves in the stairwell
It's been a great week! Until next time!!!
Some of the awesome work that Kristin has done for Athens church! It was cool to have her explain it all to me!
